THEATRE GHOSTS offers a collection of one-act plays designed for ‘After-Hours’ performances in existing theatre spaces. Aimed at audiences who enjoy off-hour/late-night entertainment, these plays can be staged without disturbing the current set of another production. Each piece adheres to specific guidelines: they respect the existing set (scripts often utilize the theatre itself as their venue), run for 45 to 75 minutes without an intermission, and require minimal props and lighting. With a cast of one to four actors, THEATRE GHOSTS offers a unique way for theatres to generate additional revenue and attract new audiences after traditional performances end.
A short history:

Michael Perlmutter started producing theatre out of sheer necessity. Having won The Elite Theater’s Local Playwright’s Initiative (‘local’ being Southern and Central California based) Michael’s entry, Severance Play, was given a fully mounted production…without a producer. It was up to him to go it alone. We were just coming in and out of a pandemic and well…you remember how that was. He learned on the fly and under the generous tutelage of Johnny Clark (VS. Theatre Company), the run was both a critical and financial success (meaning nobody lost any money).
Michael next took his productions to Hollywood, forming Theatre Ghosts in 2023. The name was repurposed from the project he began, creating a series of plays intended to be performed on otherwise existing sets for After-Hours theatre. Our first production was Haunting Rights, which began winning awards—right out of the gate, encore runs, and requests that Michael continue producing both his own works and others. At which point Carolina Rodriguez stepped in and together with the right vehicles, brought even more awards and acclaim in 2024 and 2025. Which brings us to today.
Where do we go from here?
We are currently booking engagements for our most recent productions as well as planning new shows for 2026 including a new clown show by Ann Noble and a Directing Hamlet, a two-hander by Michael Perlmutter.
Artists Supporting Artists
One of the core principles of Theatre Ghosts is that artists should be paid for their time and talent. As you know ticket sales don’t cover nearly half of the budget necessary to put on a production. And that’s without paying talent. Theatre Ghosts fundraising efforts are focused on providing the monies needed by hook crook or band-aid so that 100% of the box office is divided evenly amongst the artists. So far, we’ve been able to live up to that ideal.
If you wish to support us towards our next production, we wouldn’t say “no”. Well, we’d say “thank you” actually. Get involved. We need artists and fresh voices like never before.
We have accounts with Venmo and Zelle, feel free to contact us directly for further information on how you can become an integral part.
